Over the next year, Hamilton County will be updating its 15-year Solid Waste Management Plan as required by Ohio law. The Solid Waste Management District (District) is required to update its plan every 5 years. The next update will be submitted to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in December 2012. The District will be gathering extensive data on the types and volumes of solid waste being generated by businesses, industries, and residents within the county. A major part of this undertaking is compiling data on industrial solid waste disposal and recycling.
Industrial Survey Participation Requested
The District will mail a survey in January 2010 to as many as 2,157 manufacturing companies in Hamilton County (SIC Codes 20 and 22-39). The survey form will request general company information such as company address and number of employees, as well as specific data on the amount (in tons) of solid waste recycled and disposed of during the calendar year 2009.
Never Too Early to Accumulate Data
Now is a good time to start tallying your 2009 data so that when the survey hits your in-box next January it will take you no time to fill in the simple form and fax it or mail it back to the District.

Purpose of the Industrial Survey
The industrial survey is an important tool for the District for several reasons. The data will be used to fulfill the reporting requirements for the District as mandated by the Ohio EPA as part of the State solid waste management planning process. In addition, the information will help the County better manage solid waste disposal and recycling needs, as well as develop effective voluntary waste reduction assistance programs for business and industry in Hamilton County.
Confidentiality Ensured
The information collected via the industrial survey effort will be compiled and reported on a county-wide basis by SIC Code. No company names or company-specific data will be included in the final report that is submitted to Ohio EPA. Further, identification codes will be substituted for company information in the database to further ensure the sensitive treatment of data.
If you have any questions or concerns about the industrial survey effort or the survey tool, please feel free to contact Catherine Walsh , Program Specialist at the District, by
