Welcome
We have put together a very full WasteLine for this edition, with upcoming District events, changes to District programs, and updates on residential recycling in Hamilton County. Perhaps the best news is that Hamilton County residents are recycling more while wasting less comparing the first 6 months of 2009 with the same period in 2008!
This edition highlights our Recycling at Work program which received a National Association of Counties Achievement Award in June and our Container Loan Program which is experiencing the most successful year yet. We also included an article detailing the changes to expect to the Household Hazardous Waste program in 2010.
The District is working with Miami Township and Whitewater Township this year on improving their recycling rates. This effort will culminate with a green lecture series in the fall. See the article for details on times and locations, we would love to see residents and community representatives from all over the county attend.
Every five years the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District must update the 15 year Solid Waste Plan. The Plan ensures residents have adequate disposal capacity for waste and that Hamilton County achieves state mandated recycling goals. The Plan update process begins this fall which will include a public information session seeking political subdivision input. We want to hear your ideas, concerns, and issues. The session is tentatively scheduled for November or December, specific dates and locations will be announced soon.
As always we would love to hear your feedback on the WasteLine or suggestions for future topics of discussion. Call (513) 946-7705 or email Holly Christmann.
Sincerely,
