Hamilton County Communities Dramatically Increase Recycling!
Congratulations, Hamilton County! We increased our recycling by over 3,100 tons between 2007 and 2008! The recycling efforts in Hamilton County saved the equivalent of:
271,188 trees
3,475 tons of other natural resources such as iron ore, limestone, and coal
Enough energy to power 6,386 average homes for an entire year
24,091 ton reduction in greenhouse gases – or removing 21,297 cars from the road
Three-fourths of all Hamilton County communities improved their recycling rates between 2007 and 2008. The following six communities achieved over 20% recycling rates:
Madeira 30.10%
Wyoming 25.22%
Blue Ash 24.97%
Mariemont 24.42%
Indian Hill 22.73%
Montgomery 20.89%
All communities should be proud of such a successful year. Let’s make 2009 even better!
Under the Residential Recycling Incentive program structure, the higher a community’s recycling rate, the more dollars per ton they receive. For ideas on how to increase your community’s recycling rate, check out some of the other articles throughout this newsletter.
