How to Increase Your Recycling Rate

Back to School
Considering how we manage our resources and waste today will affect our children’s future, it makes perfect sense to include children in your recycling efforts. Fortunately, the District offers many free programs to help schools start recycling and reducing waste. Often kids will bring home the recycling message and behavior they learn in school. Click here or call 946-7736 for more information. Encourage schools in your community to take advantage of these free resources.
Cart It
Recently, a 64 gallon, two-wheeled phenomenon
has hit the streets running (well rolling) in several local
communities. These recycling carts offer residents more capacity
than the
traditional 14 or 18 gallon bins, prevent litter with a
hinged lid, and maneuver easily for residents who struggle lifting
or carrying a bin. Communities adopting the carts have found
residents recycle more than they did with the bins. Terrace Park
adopted the carts in December 2008 and has seen a 54% increase in
tons collected over the same period last year! Blue Ash,
Forest Park, Golf Manor, Indian Hill, Madeira, Montgomery and Wyoming residents can
now roll their recyclables to the curb. If you would like to offer
carts to residents in your community, add a cart option the next
time you go out to bid for waste and recycling services. For help
adding this language to your Request for Bids, contact the
District at 946-7789.
