"Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Teach Your Students About Resources"

Join us for a day of learning about natural resources – land, water and air – from local environmental education professionals. Learn about the teaching resources available to schools and enjoy classroom activities. Receive a copy of the “Economics and the Environment” curriculum guide and other teaching resources. You will learn about creative activities and community programs that link social studies and science standards. This program is co-sponsored by the University of Cincinnati Economics Center for Education and Research, the Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District, and the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District. The program is designed for educators of grades 5–9, but is open to all educators. Participation is limited, so register early! Master Composter Training

Date: March 16, 23 and 30, 2009
(Attendance at all three sessions is mandatory.)
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati, 2715 Reading Road

The Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati and the District have partnered to provide you with three weeks of intensive training that teaches every aspect of composting. Learn about a wide array of topics including: where to locate a compost pile, which type of compost bin is best for you and how to build it, how and when to turn your compost pile, the fascinating biology of a compost pile, and how to incorporate compost into your existing garden. Students will each build and take home a wire compost bin, and have the option to make a vermi-composting system for a nominal fee. The instructor is John Duke, American Compost Society & Master Gardener. Fifteen hours of volunteer service is required to complete the course; students have one year from the last class to complete their hours. Recycling Coordinator Workshop: Environmental Education Across The Curriculums

Help your students learn how to explore land, air, and water resources, focusing on environmental issues through the lens of simple economic analysis. In addition, representatives from the Ohio Department of Education, Office of Curriculum and Instruction, will guide participants through hands-on science activities, designed to be easily implemented into the classroom. This program is a partnership between Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services, the Economics Center for Education and Research, University of Cincinnati, and The Ohio Department of Education. Graduate credit from UC Center for Economic Education is available at a discount rate of $199 (full credit usually cost $389) plus successful completion of follow-up assignment. Building and Living Green: The Future of Education

Attend this workshop and learn about the State of Ohio recycling requirements for new/remodeled school buildings, how to integrate learning disciplines into the design of your building, and how to create buildings that are most conducive to student learning. The workshop will also explore how one local school saved over $5,000 per year, simply by recycling. This program is designed for school superintendents, principals, school board members, business managers, building engineers, facility and plant operators, custodians, and others involved in school building and grounds operations.
