Waste Reduction

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

The notorious 3R’s give us, in order of importance, a way to think about how we deal with our trash. First, reduce waste by preventing its creation. For example, use a durable canvas bag at the grocery store instead of the conventional paper or plastic. When reducing is not an option, the next best thing is to reuse the item. This could be as simple as bringing a paper bag back to the store to use again. Finally, if reducing and reusing will no longer work, recycle the item (e.g. place the paper bag in the recycling bin).

This section of the website focuses on waste reduction. Though recycling spends more time in the spotlight, reducing and reusing are vitally important when managing your trash. These pages will give you tips on reducing waste at home, school, and work.
