How many schools recycle in Hamilton County?
Recycling Assistance Program — Spring, 2010 Update

How many schools recycle in Hamilton County? What schools have the best programs? To provide accurate answers and to help schools start recycling programs, the District started the Recycling Assistance Program (RAP) in 2005. The goal of the program is to assist schools in developing sustainable recycling programs.

Through the RAP program, recycling coordinators are trained and asked to submit an individual recycling plan for their school. Schools who register with the RAP take advantage of the extensive support of the District, including free recycling containers, classroom presentations, school assemblies, field trips, student incentives, grants, training and lesson plans.

In the Fall 2009 issue of the newsletter, we highlighted Wyoming School District and their district-wide recycling efforts. This month I am pleased to announce that Forest Hills School District has joined our Recycling Assistance Program, under the leadership of Mr. Ray Johnson, their Business Operations Director. Assisting Ray with the recycling efforts are Recycling Coordinators at each of the nine schools in the district. Not only are the schools in the district recycling, but Ray is also seeking additional avenues that the district can follow to help the environment and better utilize the district’s financial resources. Way to go, Ray!!!

We are also excited about Sycamore School District and their plans to be one of the first school districts in the county to implement a district-wide environmental plan. We will keep you posted as things progress with this big challenge.
