The District Delves into Social Media
In our ever-continuing quest to reach Hamilton County residents, the District has jumped head-first into the sea of social media. We have YouTube videos, facebook page, backyard composting blog, and even a Twitter account. Yes, we tweet.
Social media is a great way to reach residents through a low cost medium (most sites are free to set up) where people already spend their time. Through our facebook and Twitter account, we can send residents updates on our programs, interesting recycling news, and fun facts.
In anticipation of residents’ confusion over how to dispose of latex paint at home, earlier this year we created a fun parody of a silent movie. The YouTube video only lasts a few minutes and is fun to watch—and it explains exactly how to dry out latex paint at home.
The District also heard from many residents that after starting composting in their backyard, they would run into problems and sometimes abandon the effort entirely. In order to help residents start backyard composting and maintain a healthy pile, the District started a composting blog. Every other week, we post a fun short tip about composting.
