Improve Your Recycling Rate with a Community Shred Event
If you have ever tried to destroy a whole box of documents on a tiny home office shredder, you can appreciate the value of community shred events. This new trend is popping up throughout Hamilton County.

Communities partner with a local document shredding and paper recycling company to offer a one-day event for residents to bring confidential documents to a designated drop-off point. The documents are shredded onsite and then recycled. Communities can usually offer this service at low or no cost.
As a bonus, tonnage recycled at community-operated shredding events counts toward a community’s recycling rate and can be claimed on the semi-annual Residential Recycling Incentive grant application.
Consider entering into an agreement with the vendor to ensure all the material will be shredded and recycled. If you would like to see sample contract language or ideas for what to include in a request for quotes, contact Michelle Balz.
