Particulate Matter

Particulate matter (PM) may seem like a little-known issue in the world of air quality, but it deserves the attention of citizens and lawmakers alike.

PM is a mixture of extremely small particles and liquid droplets.  Particle pollution is made up of a number of components, including nitrates, sulfates, organic chemicals, metals and dust.  Research shows that PM can cause coughing, wheezing, decreased lung function and premature death.  While children and the elderly are especially sensitive to PM, even healthy individuals can feel its effects.

This website provides information on PM, its health effects and steps to reducing its presence in Southwest Ohio’s air.
