The Committee on the Environment addresses the critical issues of ecology and sustainability and explores practical applications to the practice of responsible design. The committee's charter is as follows:

The creation of buildings and modification of the environment in the 21st century will require a greater awareness of the impact of design decisions than in the past.

It is the responsibility of the AIA Cincinnati Committee on the Environment to increase this awareness through a variety of educational, publishing and program activities. The committee will coordinate its activities with professional member groups in related fields, such as the Illumination Engineers Society (IES), American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (ASHRAE), and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) to make its activities useful to a broad range of AIA membership.

The Committee on the Environment will coordinate its efforts with other AIA Cincinnati and AIA national committees in overlapping areas, such as Design, to create programs with a strong impact.

The Committee on the Environment meets the second Thursday of every month at Kaldi's Coffee House & Bookstore, 1204 Main Street, Cincinnati.  All interested parties are invited to attend.  If you are interested in being placed on an e-mail distribution list to follow the activities of the committee, please e-mail your request to 2001 Committee Chair Dave Tsevat at davidtsevat@hotmail.com
