The Green Squad
Grade 5 - 8
Just like you and your students, the Green Squad also spends most of
their day in school, and the squad wants to ensure that school is a safe
healthy place that doesn’t hurt the environment. Go on an investigative
tour of the Green Squad’s school to learn ways to make sure your school
is a safe and healthy place that doesn’t hurt you and the environment.
This website is designed primarily for 5th through 8th grade students,
but does offer information for younger and older students, as well as,
parents and teachers. The Green Squad is a collaborative project of the
Natural Resources Defense Council and the Healthy Schools Network (HSN)
and is available in English and Spanish.
Soil Science Education
Grades K-12
This website covers such topics as soil science basics, soil and
society, soil and the environment, working with the soil, soil and
students, and soil and agriculture. The site features a soil profile of
the month, an activity of the month, a soil story of the month, soil in
the news, and soil science and the national standards. The homepage is
maintained by NASA.
The Adventures of Herman
Grade K - Adult
Squirmin’ Herman the Worm will teach you all about where worms came
from, their anatomy, why we can’t live without them, and how to build a
worm bin. Learn interesting worm facts and visit Herman’s fun place for

Woodwise
Grade 3 - Adult
Receive a free guide produced by the WoodWise Consumer group and eleven
nonprofit groups. This updated 2001 edition contains forest-saving
ideas, tools and resources you can use everyday to make a difference.
Students and their parents can help close the recycling loop by
purchasing more forest-friendly goods. Choose from paper products
including loose-leaf paper, spiral notebooks, marbled composition books,
computer paper, notepads, folders, daily planners and calendars. Also
available are other school products such as three-ring binders, pens and
pencils made from 100 percent post consumer materials. Clothing made
