Ohio River Sweep

Saturday, June 21, 2003
Help pick up trash and debris on the shores of the Ohio River. For more information visit or call the Ohio River Sweep Hotline: 1-800-359-3977. Did you know? For the last fifty plus years, every piece of plastic that has washed down rivers and made it to the Pacific Ocean has accumulated in the central Pacific Gyre. Due to the lack of wind and currents in this area, the patch has grown to the size of a continent, and is now referred to as the Pacific Garbage Patch. It is larger than the United States and fragments are mixed below the surface of the water down to at least 30 meters. Click here for more information.

The Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District will sponsor four FREE Household Hazardous Materials Collection Events in 2003! The events collect hazardous materials from residents and dispose or recycle them at no cost. Collection events are currently being planned for the spring and fall of 2003. District funded collection events take place every three years. In 2000, the District collected over 213,000 pounds of hazardous materials from residents. To be notified of the exact dates of the events, please call the Household Hazardous Materials Hotline at (513) 946-7700.
