County to offer Rebate for Buying Recycled Content Paper

One third of all garbage we throw away is paper, whether it is student handouts, cereal boxes, or old newspaper. Ask any student what you can do with that paper instead of throwing it away and they will probably suggest recycling it.

To truly recycle and close the recycling loop, we must provide a market for recycled products and actually purchase recycled materials. We are interested in providing you with a reward for your recycling effort! A $5 rebate is available for each case of recycled content paper purchased by your school (up to 100 cases per school, pre-registration is required).

Many of you may say, "Hey, we've tried recycled paper in the past and it wasn't good enough!" In the fall of 2001, Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services in partnership with Lakeside Elementary, Winton Woods Elementary, and Cameron Park Elementary tested recycled paper and found out that this is no longer the case. The standard of recycled paper has greatly improved over the years. Our three pilot schools used recycled paper in their copy machines and noted any problems. We are pleased to say that the results were extremely encouraging. In all cases, principals found that there was no difference in quality of the paper. In fact, the teachers did not even notice that the paper was different.
