Beginning in the Fall of 2002, schools will be eligible to work with the Mercury-Free Task Force to remove all mercury from your school…at no cost to you! Through an application process, the Task Force will work with four to six schools within Hamilton County to replace mercury thermometers (including laboratory thermometers) and safely recycle any other mercury that is found in the school. To further increase awareness about the dangers of mercury, the Task Force will also conduct educational presentations in the selected schools.

If you have any questions, or would like to receive an application, contact Susan Schumacher at (513) 946-7734.

Event is Sponsored by: Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District, Hamilton County General Health District, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency – Southwest District Office, Metropolitan Sewer District, Ohio Mercury Reduction Workgroup, Alliance for Chemical Safety.

  • Hamilton County to Sponsor Computer Collection Event

In June 2001, the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District conducted a Computer Recycling Collection event for businesses, schools and residents.
Seven semi-truckloads of material were collected and sent to UNICOR in West Elkton, OH. This facility deconstructed the computers, monitors, phone systems, etc., and safely recycled the materials. Due to the success of this event, the District will conduct another computer collection event in June of 2002, and all schools and businesses are encouraged to participate.

If you would like to receive information about this future event, please visit our website and complete an information request form. If you have any questions, please contact Christy Kellner at (513) 946-7732.
