The following teachers have been awarded funding for waste reduction projects in their schools through the District’s Residential Reduction Assistance Grant

Kamlesh Jindal, Bond Hill Academy
Project Title: Vermicomposting
Project Narrative: This project is designed to teach city children about the importance of composting. Throughout this project, students will collect organic waste from three lunch periods on a daily basis. Five classrooms will maintain the compost bins. Students will use the finished compost in science projects and will conduct presentations to other classes about vermicomposting. Expect to divert 2,160 pounds of food waste. Amount Funded: $2,486.40

Susan S. Vonderhaar, Dater Montessori (formerly Carson Montessori)
Project Title: Dater Waste Watchers 
Project Narrative: Dater Montessori will continue the paper recycling program that was started in 2000. They will also purchase fire-proof recycling containers. Expect to reduce nearly half of the waste the school generates. Amount Funded: $900.00

Lisa Clem, Academy of World Languages 
Project Title: Fifth Grade Recycling Club
Project Narrative: Fifth grade students will be responsible for educating their peers about recycling and for collecting the recyclables (office paper and corrugated cardboard) throughout the school. Rumpke Recycling will pick up all recyclables. Expect to divert 2,000 pounds of paper. Amount Funded: $490.64

Catherine S. Wymer, Clark Montessori Recycling Committee
Project Title: Clark Montessori Jr./Sr. High Recycling Projects 
Project Narrative: The Committee will initiate a recycling program which will collect paper, glass, and plastic bottles. A group of parents will collect and drop off the materials to a local recycling center. The grant will be used to purchase containers. Amount Funded: $1,851.00
