Solid Waste Management District Issue Papers

The following documents represent an analysis of the first three issues to be considered by the Hamilton County Solid Waste Policy Committee as it begins the process of updating the its Solid Waste Plan.

These issues, and the questions they seek to address, can be summarized as follows:

Disposal Capacity – Does Hamilton County possess adequate disposal capacity for the amount of waste it is expected to generate over the next 15 years? What strategies should the District utilize to ensure that adequate capacity is maintained?

District Finances – Will the District maintain adequate revenues to fund recycling programming throughout the 15 year planning period? What is the surest and most equitable way for that funding to be maintained?

District Siting Strategy – The Solid Waste Management District, by law, is required to formulate a siting strategy for District-owned facilities. Should the current siting strategy be maintained or modified?

Reading the Issue Papers
Each Issue Paper is structured in the following manner:

  • In-depth analysis of the issue.
  • Presentation of various policy options for addressing the issue.
  • Presentation of key questions designed to assist with determining the best policy option.

Public Information Session
Two public information sessions will be held regarding these three issues. The first session will take place on Wednesday September 29 from 2:00 p.m .- 4:00 p.m. The second session will take place on Thursday September 30 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

These first three issue papers will be discussed at a District Policy Work Session to be held from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Thursday October 7, 2004
