Pollution Prevention Intern Program Expands
The Pollution
Prevention Intern Program is expanded through a partnership between
the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District (District), Butler
County Department of Environmental Services (BCDES), and TechSolve,
Inc. (the local Ohio Edison Center). As a result of grant
funding from the U.S. EPA, the Southwest Ohio Pollution Prevention Internship Program will
train and host four interns at selected companies located
in Hamilton and Butler Counties. As in past years, the District
will fund 75% of the internship and the chosen companies will match
25%.
Project proposal
applications from businesses are due no later than January 30,
2009.

Catherine Walsh or call (513) 946-7732 for more details or to
receive a Business Project Proposal Application.
The goal of the
internship program is to give students an
edge in obtaining full time employment after graduation, create and
keep technically skilled jobs in Ohio, give businesses fresh and
innovative ideas about pollution prevention, and save
companies money.
Interested industries
must apply to receive an intern. Proposed projects must have a clear
relationship to the Pollution Prevention/Energy Efficiency Hierarchy,
described as source reduction, energy efficiency, reuse, recycling,
and energy recovery.
The internship program is
designed for upper level undergraduate and graduate students.
Acceptable fields of study include Environmental Engineering Majors,
Civil Engineering Majors, Environmental Health and Safety Majors,
Environmental Science Majors or other related fields. The intern
will be employed by the District and will be a contractor for the
chosen companies. The Intern will work at the company with assistance
from a project supervisor designated by the company, a technical
advisor from TechSolve, and a P2 Intern Coordinator employed by the
District. Interns will be paid $11.01 per hour. The intern will
receive an intense week of pollution prevention training in late May
2009 prior to starting the 12-week long assignment at the selected
company. At the end of the internship, the students are expected to
complete a thorough report and present their findings to the company
and the District.
