Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District

Green Building
Green Building Information

Green building, or sustainable design, is a growing movement throughout the United States. The federal government and many state and local governments are discovering the benefits of green building not only to the environment but also to their bottom line! Examples of states and local governments that have issued ordinances or mandates for green building in future public buildings include: Pennsylvania; New York; Seattle, WA; Boulder, CO; San Francisco, CA.

Green building is the idea of designing, constructing, and operating buildings in ways that minimize environmental impacts. It incorporates energy efficiency, water conservation, waste minimization, pollution prevention, resource-efficient materials and indoor air quality.

The Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District (District) advocates green building as it reduces waste going to landfills, conserves natural resources, reduces pollution, and uses recycled-content materials. To further the green building movement in Hamilton County, the District develops publications, sponsors workshops, and has staff available to assist the building industry in pursuing construction of green buildings.
