Project Title: Paint Recycling

PROJECT SUMMARY: Nu-Blend will collect unused latex paint from a variety of sources and reblend it to a high-quality usable latex paint. Specifically, the funding will be used to purchase paint mixers which increase the volume of paint produced. Nu-Blend estimates diverting 82.5 tons of paint and recycling 30,000 paint containers.


Applicant: Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce
Project Title: Recycling at Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati
Amount Requested: $14,500.00
Recommended Funding: $10,185.00

PROJECT SUMMARY: The Downtown Council will develop a recycling program for plastic bottles and cups at Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati with the help from St. Xavier band members and their parents. Over one ton of material will be collected.


Applicant: Keep Cincinnati Beautiful
Project Title: Beyond the Recycling Bin
Amount Requested: $7,400.00

PROJECT SUMMARY: Keep Cincinnati Beautiful will conduct a monthly mixed paper recycling drive at two locations within the City of Cincinnati. Funds will be used for dumpster rental and hauling.


Applicant: Gorman Heritage Farm
Project Title: Gorman Heritage Farm Composting Project

PROJECT SUMMARY: Cincinnati Nature Center's Gorman Heritage Farm will collect and compost approximately 200 cubic yards annually of source-separated vegetative waste from Pipkin's Market. The finished compost will be used as a soil amendment on the farm.

Project Title: Recycling Education Classroom

PROJECT SUMMARY: The Recycling Education Classroom will expand on the Compost Demonstration Site that is currently under development. It will provide a model for the use of recycled-content materials in garden and landscape structure and serve as a hands-on learning center for children and adults (backyard composting classes held here).

Project Title: Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Alternatives

PROJECT SUMMARY: The ASC will hire a U.C. graduate student to conduct a one-year study of household hazardous materials in the tri-state area.

PROJECT SUMMARY: This project is designed to teach city children about the importance of composting. In this project, students will collect organic waste from three lunch periods on a daily basis. Five classrooms will maintain the compost bins. Students will use the finished compost in science projects and will conduct presentations to other classes about vermicomposting. Expect to divert 2,160 pounds of food waste.

Project Title: Dater Waste Watchers

PROJECT SUMMARY: Dater Montessori will continue the paper recycling program that was started in 2000. They will also purchase fire-proof recycling containers. Expect to reduce nearly half of the waste the school generates.


APPLICANT: Academy of World Languages*
Project Title: Fifth Grade Recycling Club
Amount Requested: $490.64
Recommended Funding: $490.64

PROJECT SUMMARY: Fifth grade students will be responsible for educating their peers about recycling and also collecting the recyclables (office paper and corrugated cardboard). Rumpke Recycling will pick up all recyclables. Expect to divert 2,400 pounds of paper.

Project Title: Clark Montessori Jr./Sr. High Recycling Projects
Amount Requested: $2,222.60

PROJECT SUMMARY: The Committee will initiate a recycling program which will collect: paper, glass and plastic bottles. A group of parents will collect and drop off the materials to a local recycling center. The grant will be used to purchase containers.


Applicant: Crayons to Computers
Project Title: Crafts with Conviction
Amount Requested: $12,000.00

PROJECT SUMMARY: "Crafts with Conviction" is a community service partnership between the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and C2C. Since 1998, over $1 million worth of school supplies were donated and reused. A part-time coordinator is needed to sustain and expand this program.

Project Title: Grailville Demonstration Site for Recycling & Composting

PROJECT SUMMARY: Develop a recycling and worm composting program at Grailville's conference center.

Applicant: City of Wyoming
Project Title: Recycling Education Website Enhancement Project
Amount Requested: $6,000.00

PROJECT SUMMARY: Using an experienced web designer from U.C.'s DAAP program, Wyoming will develop a website to increase participation in their curbside recycling program. Wyoming's goal is to increase participation by 3-4%.


Applicant: City of Harrison
Project Title: Recycling Information Flyer
Amount Requested: $200.00
Recommended Funding: $200.00

PROJECT SUMMARY: To increase participation in curbside recycling, the City of Harrison will develop an informational flyer stating what can go into the curbside bin. The flyers will be distributed by the local boy scouts.


Applicant: City of Loveland
Project Title: Voluntary Recycling Outreach Program
Amount Requested: $3,253.24

PROJECT SUMMARY: The City of Loveland will design and distribute a brochure encouraging residents to participate in both the curbside and cardboard drop off programs. Anticipate increasing participation by 15%.


Applicant: Village of Lockland
Project Title: Lockland Recycling
Amount Requested: $22,370.00
Recommended Funding:  $22,370.00

PROJECT SUMMARY: The Village of Lockland currently has no recycling available for the residents. With this grant, the Village will operate a 24-hour recycling drop off. Rumpke Recycling will collect the recyclables. The Village, with the assistance of the District, will develop promotional materials announcing the program. The Village will also sponsor two special appliance pick up days.


Applicant: Whitewater Township
Project Title: Clean Up Whitewater Township
Amount Requested: $22,376.25
Recommended Funding:  $8,127.00

PROJECT SUMMARY: Whitewater Township will expand their one-day clean up event to two days (April and October). Items to be recycled include: metals, appliances, yardwaste. Expected diversion is 8,000 pounds.

Project Title: Reclaiming Urban Timber

PROJECT SUMMARY: The Cincinnati Park Board will initiate an urban wood reclamation program within the City of Cincinnati. The Park Board will form an education/school partnership, provide carbon storage, quality lumber for area woodworking classes.
